Evening: I have passed another day doing “nothing.” The jungle is quiet after heavy rains all day. Only the crickets now. I turn off the fans and open the doors to listen. I eat my homemade mango rice and red snapper. I sleep so deeply.

I can feel some transition—a gradation between what it’s like to be here full of adrenaline and anticipation, and what it’s like to be here truly alone. I’m here to feel it all and so I will.
